In January, in the ball of bees, there are no significant changes. It goes up a little bit. Bees that have worked in the fall or are damaged by varroasis mites begin to die. There are corpses near the varnishes that prevent air from entering the nest. We collect and burn their corpses, because dead bees are thrown right next to the lacquer and invite titmouse’s, which will disturb the peace of the bees.
In calm weather, it is enough to bypass the hives every week or two and clean the varnish. Attention should be paid to the number of dead bees on or near the hive. After windy days, especially blizzards, it is necessary to immediately check the hives roofs, their tightness, and clear the snow that has accumulated from the assumptions. If you notice that the bees, do not have enough of food in the winter (the bee ball has risen right next to the roof), you need to put moth dough without pollen.
