How Clean Up Honeycombs

When we extract the honey, little bit of honey always remains on the frames. In the autumn, when the honey harvesting goes to ends, we prepare the frames for storage for next year. We made this video to show how bees clean up the honeycomb and collect the remaining honey, even the tiniest droplets.

The frames of empty honeycomb are folded in a distance at least 50 m. from the apiary so as to have the best possible access – flare. After adding the honeycombs near the apiary, almost all the bees in the apiary gather after 15-20 minutes. Honeycombs are placed at such distance from the apiary in order to prevent theft between apiary hives (when bees begin to steal honey from adjacent hives and carry it to their own). Well, even after one or two hours of such intense work, the honeycombs are dry and clean. And after that can be safely stored for next year.
